Extraordinary Art: A Celebration of Artists with Autism

Who: Independent With Autism and nonprofit, The Brushwood Center

What: View art created by teens and adults with autism at a reception while enjoying light snacks on January 27 or experience the art exhibit at your convenience, January 28 through January 31. Discover vivid colors and complex textures of unique art as artists speak through their chosen medium about nature and our environment. Each piece is as extraordinary as the artist who created it.

The featured art includes that of an award winning artist from Vernon Hills. The works range in form from digital art to acrylic paintings. Local students from Grayslake High School transform yarn into a collaborative work. A student from the Warren Township High School Transition Program refines recycled materials. An artist from Ingleside illustrates the simple allure of charcoal drawing, while one artist from Wauconda paints the beauty he sees, and another uses a computer to finalize her vision. In addition to viewing the art on display, watch as Jacob Whitson of Wauconda creates a painting, in person, at the reception on January 27.

Along with local artists, this event also features the charming cards of Brian Watkins from Maryland, and the award winning work of Jeremy Sicile-Kira of California.
