Stanley Kubrick, 1999 • As his career progressed, Kubrick seemed to allow each successive project a longer gestation. His final film, released three months after his death, arrived after a twelve-year hiatus, such that Kubrick’s already strange aesthetic suddenly seemed all the more so in the context of contemporary Hollywood. Transposing Arthur Schnitzler’s Traumnovelle to present-day New York, it is Kubrick’s most risky adaptation, paying off in the form of one of his best, and most human, works, a meditation on fidelity with Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman delivering two of the screen’s great performances. 35mm

      Cost: 5.00
