      EVENT DETAILS
Immigration in the United States: A Discussion w/ Journalist Sonia Nazario

Pulitzer prize-winning journalist and immigration activist Sonia Nazario will share the heart-tugging odyssey of a Honduran boy who rode atop trains from Mexico in search of his mother in the United States as part of her discussion on immigration laws and children’s struggles to assimilate in America’s classrooms on Thursday, June 27, 2013, at 6PM, at DePaul University’s Lincoln Park Campus, Cortelyou Commons, 2324 North Fremont St., Chicago. The event, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by DePaul University and the nonprofit Facing History and Ourselves  and is part of a three-day Summer Institute for Chicago-area teachers titled “Belonging in American Society: An Exploration of Immigration in American History and its Impact in our Classrooms.”

“Enrique’s Journey,”  Nazario’s 2006 bestseller, has become required reading for incoming freshmen at nearly 60 colleges and scores of high schools across the country and will be reissued later this summer with an epilogue in an edition geared toward young adults.  “Enrique’s Journey” will be for sale on-site and Nazario will be available to sign copies.
