(@ Museum of Contemporary Art - 220 E Chicago - All Ages) Empty Bottle & The Wire present 'Adventures in Modern Music: A Five Day Celebration of Outsider Sounds' featuring
      Oval label: Thrill Jockey
      Peaking Lights
plus a screening of collected visions from Deep Magic
We’re pleased to present the ninth installment of the Adventures in Modern Music festival, organized in conjunction with authoritative UK periodical The Wire. Tonight we venture outside of the Bottle and class it up over at the Museum of Contemporary Art and welcome Berlin composer MARKUS POPP and the newly imagined glitches found on his 70-track double LP, O, released via Thrill Jockey as OVAL. After nearly a decade away, OVAL has left the processed CD glitches of old-school OVAL and has turned up PC plug-ins to generate a treasure trove of fractal miniatures, whirring ambience, drum-dappled clickscapes and plucked melodic bliss. Wisconsin duo PEAKING LIGHTS’ debut LP 936, out via Not Not Fun, has been called “an appealing mess of psychedelia, krautrock, electronica and dub…what might have happened had the GRATEFUL DEAD jammed with AMON DUUL while KING TUBBY fiddled with the controls,” by The Guardian and we have to agree that the bewitchingly beautiful and hazy concoction created by this Midwestern couple is something truly magnificent to behold. The night will also feature a screening of the collected vision from DEEP MAGIC, so come get nerdy with us on the third night of AIMM. (Chicagoist) (Loud Loop Press) (Reader)
