Saturday, July 21, 2018 “Repairing the Harm - Breaking the Cycle” our 2nd annual benefit reception to benefit the Darren B. Easterling Center for Restorative Practices (the Center) is being held at NYCH Art Gallery located at 643 West 18th Street.  This event will serve to bring together community and organizational leaders, survivors of violent crimes as well as some innovative thinkers—all seeking to end the overwhelming cycle of violence in our city. Many of Chicago’s staunchest advocates in the areas of restorative justice and trauma and victim centered recovery, who are committed to ending the cycle of gun-violence, are expected to attend this opening event, which will include cocktails, hearty hor d’oeuvres and a silent auction. The Center is a recent recipient of two grant awards. The first being the 2018 Chicago Fund for Safe and Peaceful Communities grant to facilitate a truth and reconciliation summit -- day-long event designed to spark a national conversation on the intrinsic power found in sharing our stories to heal our pain. To discover the humanity in ourselves and others and unearth forgivenes - one community at a time. The second being our first ever Alliance for Research in Chicagoland Communities (ARCC) Seed Grant to support community-engaged research. With this grant Northwestern University, Feinberg School of Medicine and Darren B. Easterling Center for Restorative Practices are building a partnership to “Enhance Trauma-Informed Recovery Services for Women in Englewood Impacted by the Loss of a Child to Gun Violence or Incarceration”. All proceeds will support the Center’s Annual Fund, making it possible for the organization to continue providing behavioral health services to the communities it serves.
