      "Dead Man's Cell Phone"

Romantic Comedy About Love, Death & the Digital Age

The phrase "dead ringer" takes on unexpected new meanings in Dead Man's Cell Phone, the imaginative romantic comedy from MacArthur "Genius" and Pulitzer finalist Sarah Ruhl. An incessantly ringing phone chips away at the peaceful ambiance in an otherwise quiet café until Jean, a woman sitting at the next table, has had enough. Discovering the phone's owner is dead, she answers the call anyway -- and soon finds herself dating the dead man's brother, sharing cosmopolitans with his widow and meeting his mistress for a mysterious rendezvous. Jean's odd odyssey leads her to confront her own assumptions about morality, redemption and the need to connect in a world obsessed with technology. Come to Chicago's Greenhouse Theater Center for this insightful work about how society memorializes the dead and how that process changes the living forever.
